Coming to the Boston Herald
April 14-18, Global Warming - Local Solutions 2
A Herald In Education Special Series
This brand new series follows in the footsteps of the highly acclaimed 2007 series that inspired 24,000 students to meet the global challenge to climate change with local solutions. One year later, students will use the most current published facts, projections and predictions to further comprehend the warming trend facing today’s scientists – and all of us. The series will debut on April 14th with an introduction to renewable energy in Massachusetts and showcasing effective leaders in the field. On Tuesday, April 15th, a special 12 page interactive pullout section will bring readers up to date on the most current research on the warming trend. On the following three days, readers will learn how to increase their own energy efficiency while learning about local award-winning companies and educational institutions that are using alternative energy resources successfully.
BONUS DVD from WGBH!! Every school registered for Global Warming 2 will also receive this special DVD on solar energy:
SOLAR ENERGY: SAVED BY THE SUN Can solar power help save the Earth from the ravages of global warming? In the face of steeply rising oil prices and political turmoil in the Middle East, there’s new urgency and enthusiasm for finding ways to make solar power more efficient and affordable. NOVA presents a provocative mix of scientist, economists, and ordinary citizens who are all pushing the envelope of solar power’s untapped potential.
Global Warming 2 Invites students to: Speak your mind! As part of the series, we’ve invited prominent local scientists and environmentalists to blog about their own areas of expertise regarding Global Warming. We invite readers to participate by posting comments and adding to the discussion. Discuss What You’ve Read, post information about upcoming events, and inform others about what people in Massachusetts are doing about solving this global environmental issue. While You’re There, visit Verizon’s new educational website at www. Thinkfinity.org and discover science-based lesson plans and family activities designed to further the learning experience. To get you started, we’re featuring several of our favorite Thinkfinity learning activities in the four supplemental pages of the series
